Editorial Reviews:

The JVC SR-DVM70 is a 3-in-1 video recorder with tape, DVD and hard disk formats in a single box. The unit accepts Mini DV cassettes, DVD disks and it integrates a 250GB hard disk recorder. The compact package has analog to digital encoding as well as various editing and dubbing capabilities. The unit makes media duplication and professional archiving easier than ever. The SR-DVM700US records in three formats both directions to enable 6-way recording with DV/MPEG real time encoding. The unit recognizes Mini DV Cassettes, Mini DVCAM Cassettes, audio CD disks, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM disks and can play them and record to any of them. It can also play and record to the internal hard drive. As with many professional pieces of video and audio equipment the SR-DVM70 can be controlled remotely via RS-232C control. The 9-pin connector can be used for controlling most basic functions including Power, Play, Stop, FF, Rewind, Record, Pause, Eject and others. The deck uses a bit-rate optimizer for hard drive to DVD recordings. This system analyzes the content as it is recorded on the hard drive and then assigns optimum bit rates to ensure the best picture quality while calculating disk capacity. The SR-DVM700US has a Synchronized Edit system which helps preserve picture quality and seamless transitions with no visible edit points. The Synchronized Edit feature allows you to edit the data on the hard drive and then transfer digitally to the DVD disk. The system makes use of intracoded pictures, predictive coded pictures, bi-directionally predictive coded pictures, frame information within each Group of Pictures (GOP) during edit operations. Conclusion: Perfect!

Review: This product has been perfect for all my needs! I have been using it a lot since I purchased it and it is exactly what I expected it to be. I use a lot for direct DVD creation from DV Tape. Also I have used it to save to hard drive for limited editing and burning to DVD. I have also used it as a DV Player to download Video to Video Editor (Final Cut Pro). Love it!

Review: Would not recognize or run the tapes from my HD camcorder. I sent it back the next day!

Conclusion: Problems with simultaneous recording

Review: This unit will not simultaneously record on the Hard Drive and DVD. When transferring from Hard Drive to DVD, the DVDs are letterboxed. (I never found a work around for this problem) High speed transfer from HD to DVD has limitations.

Video quality is very acceptable on all three drives, and their are plenty of in and out connections.

This unit was not right for my requirements. Had I known it would not record simultaneously on HD and DVD I would have never bought the unit. I even downloaded the manual before purchase and this limitation is not mentioned. Not until I tried to record did a screen pop up saying I could not simultaneously record.

Glad I bought it on Amazon! Excellent return policies
