The AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF Lens is the world's first macro lens equipped with SWM (Silent Wave Motor) and VR (Vibration Reduction) systems. The VRII function minimizes camera shake by offering the equivalent of a shutter speed 4 stops faster. The SWM enables fast and quiet autofocusing, and quick switching between autofocus and manual operation. The IF design provides a constant lens length and eliminates rotation of the front lens element, facilitating the use of circular polarizing filters and the Nikon Close-up. The Nano Crystal Coat ensures superior optical performance by virtually eliminating internal lens element reflections. Closest focusing distance - 0.314m (1 ft.) Focus-limit switch Macro focusing M/A and Manual Focus Modes Includes CL-1020 Lens Pouch, LC-62mm snap-on front lens cap, LF-1 rear lens cap Unit Dimensions(from the camera's lens mounting flange) - 83 x 116mm Weight (approx.) - 790g

Conclusion: Professional Glass! Review: This is a pro piece of glass and takes phenomenal pictures. I recommend this to anyone interested in getting into macro photography as I have been for some time. Focusing can be a little tricky, but the photographs can be breathtaking with a little work.

Conclusion: Hobby Review: I have a Nikon D80. I like to take close-ups of flowers and textured objects of interest. This new lens gives me full scale of the object and outstanding clarity. The anti-shake feature is great for hand-held. Being able to switch from auto-focus to manual quickly and easily is a big plus.
Love it.

Conclusion: Dragon Fly Review: To test this lens, I took a picture of a 1 inch dragonfly from 12 inches away. What amazed me was the ability to either focus on the face, legs or feet. The AF was really fast. I also printed to picture out large enough so the dragonfly was 8 times it's size. I could find no distortion. Usually with my nikon lens, I will take 10 pictures and 9 would come out good. This lens was 10 out of 10. It was also fast enough to take a picture of a bird in mid flight and there was no blurryness on the wings. I highly recomend this lens for taking pictures of small creatures.

Conclusion: The Best Nikon lens I'd ever had Review: This is no doubt the best lens for macro or close up medical photographs.
Highly recommended for any serious medical professionals who need excellent documentation of close up facial shots.

Conclusion: Better than Expected Review: After seeing so many great close-ups, I got this macro lens because I wanted to take some too. Macro work has a learning curve, which I'm only starting to master.
I had read about focus breathing issues with this lens, but have found it to be no issue at all for me. Getting a subject still enough and enough depth of field are far more challenging for me.
As a bonus, I find that this lens does great as a medium distance portrait lens, where the VR and f/2.8 aperture really help. This lens is weakest at distance, where sharpness can be a little off, at least in my sample of this lens.
Overall, the macro works great, and the medium distance capabilities are a pleasant bonus to this great lens.
