Conclusion: Must have
Review: I've owned the camera since it first came out, and I can testify that this add-on is incredibly usefull. Sure, it isn't the unibody contructiuon (yet) of the newer versions, but effortless to recharge the batteries and up to 100 images at high res or even 60 at RAW -- with a fast 1 GB card. Only other advice -- think of a bouncing or swivelling flash atachment and connecting bracket. It all fits together! Evaluation:
Conclusion: More than you need
Review: I am pleased with the battery pack. It fits well and matches my Dimage A2 well. The AA battery tray works well and gives you the latitude to use batteries with your camera other than the NP-400. It does take six AA batteries. With the rechargeable Eveready AA batteries (2,300mAh), the next to highest picture size and pix count camera settings, using a flash for each picture I was able to take 175 pictures before I ran out of power. Without the tray you need two NP-400s. I can't report on how many pictures you can take with this setup because I haven't tried it yet. I did find third party NP-400 batteries in Canada that give you 1,750mAh instead of Minolta's 1,400mAh. They were 1/5 the Minolta price but one never knows??? I found the strap a throw away item. It just didn't feel right but that might have been just me. Happy picture taking. Evaluation:
Conclusion: Turns the A1/A2 into a different camera
Review: The BP400 is an essential accessory for your A1 or A2, I think. It makes the camera so much nicer to hold and operate - horizontally and vertically. It's perhaps a bit expensive but it's worth it. Also make sure you buy a second battery. You can easily go all day shooting with two batteries. Another benefit of the BP400 is the insert for regular AA batteries. So if you run out of juice in your regular batteries you can just grab some regular AAs from a store.
