Multi-Coating improves overall quality of filter by correcting for refractive properties of the filter glass. With multi-coated glass your photos will look sharper and have more contrast. Though most people use the UV Haze to protect their lens from dust and scratches, it also absorbs ultra violet and blue rays without affecting exposure or color.

Conclusion: Purchased two, both have defective coatings
Review: I purchased two of these at a Ritz Camera store while on vacation since the Ritz near my home had closed recently. The first filter has a small grain of something caught under the coating. Multiple cleanings didn't help. I used the second filter for a month when I noticed the coating delaminating in one area. Since I didn't have a local Ritz, I contacted them online. Their response was to take it to the nearest Ritz for replacement. I couldn't get them to understand that it wasn't worth it to me to try to return it to the "nearest" Ritz. I've since purchased two Hoya filters from Adorama and am very pleased with the quality. [...]
