Editorial Reviews:

Agfa's latest innovation - the SnapScan 1212u - is a high-quality USB scanner. The Universal Serial Bus is an exciting development in PC interfacing. It's fast, it allows "hot plugging" without rebooting, and it supports up to 127 peripheral devices! These significant advantages mean that USB-interface PCs are becoming very popular. So if you buy one, and then want to scan images, the SnapScan 1212u is ideal for the job! SnapScan 1212u is also available in a stylish, translucent green design ("Bondi blue" in the U.S.) a perfect complement to Apple's popular iMac computer.Expanding the award winning SnapScan range, the 1212u is a high-performance 36-bit color scanner for reflective originals. It captures razor-sharp images up to A4 format and can register more than 60 billion colors! SnapScan 1212u introduces the concept of multi-user scanning. The ease and speed with which SnapScan 1212u can be moved between USB PCs makes it practical to share a single scanner between multiple users. This minimizes your costs and ensures your scanner never sits idle. Use SnapScan 1212u at home, take it to the office, share it with your colleagues - wherever there's a USB interface, just plug in and scan away!

Conclusion: Great Scanner At A Low Price

Review: I thought I'd write this review as a counter punch to those who wrote bad reviews about the scanner. I purchased mine when I bought my first iMac back in 1998. Here it is 2005 and the scanner is still working as good as it did from day one. I have used it on every Macintosh I have purchased since my original iMac and it has worked flawlessly under Mac OS 9 all the way up to Mac OS X v10.3.9. I am finally replacing it because I bought an all in one printer (printer/scanner/copier) to replace a printer that quit on me today. But the scanner will be given to someone who can appreciate its ease of use and great quality scans. I was looking for a source of information on the scanner so I could send it to the person I want to give the scanner to and this link came up first in my Google search. Perhaps people who are using Windows are having issues with the scanner but this scanner works great with a Mac.

Conclusion: Prints only small.

Review: I have the AGFA 1212U, and it has worked very well until the other day when it will print only one size (small). The only way I can get a different size is to send it through the E-Mail back to my self. Could you give me a hint as to what I am doing wrong? I have tried every thing I know.

Conclusion: I love this scanner!

Review: I've had mine for over a year now and one similar to it before. It's very easy to operate and the scans come out great. It's also very quite and did I mention cheap? Buy this scanner!!

Conclusion: Don't buy this scanner!

Review: I have had an Agfa SnapScan 1212U Color Scanner for just a little over six months, and it died for no apparent reason. I think the power switch on it stopped working. I noticed that the scanner did not shut off when I turned off my computer the last time I used it. My husband returned home from work yesterday and noticed that the scanner was making a lot of noise. He tried turning it off, but when he was unsuccessful, he unhooked the power supply. Now it's dead. I hear it making a slight noise when I power up my computer, but nothing happens. The Snapscan software doesn't even recognize that the scanner is powered on. I looked through my documentation and can find no information on a warranty, so I think I am stuck with a bum scanner. I didn't like it that much anyway. The software is hokey. Take my advice, and don't buy this scanner.

Conclusion: No support for Windows NT (so far)

Review: I have yet to get my scanner running. Maybe I shouldn't have taken it for granted that the product would run on a Windows NT OS. I could even live with the fact that it would use the drivers from Windows 98 and I would lose some performance. But the setup programs alerts me that it doesn't support NT, and then promptly quits.

Something, somewhere, whether on the Amazon.com website, or on the product package, or in the requirements listing, should let you know that it is not compatible with Windows NT. But it doesn't.
