Editorial Reviews:

In nature, we often hear the sound of a bird or an animal before we can see it. Our new Hear and There Books have the same effect. After reading a short riddle, children are asked "What am I?" By pushing a color-coded button on the sound strip, they can hear the call of the bird or the animal. When they pull the tab on the right page, the animal is revealed. To find out more about the featured bird or animal, readers can lift the flap on the left-hand page for more detailed information on its habitat, its young, and its behavior. Written by a professional naturalist, these books are beautifully illustrated, fun to listen to, and filled with interesting facts!

Have you ever wondered what a certain sound was outside your window at night? As children play the calls of these nocturnal creatures, they will be fascinated to read and learn about the coyote, spring peepers, great horned owl, American toad, whippoorwill, field cricket, bullfrog, and katydid.

Conclusion: overrated

Review: I relied on the positive reviews on Amazon and purchased this product for my granddaughter. I personally was disappointed, as there are only 8 birds included in the book. However, I will say that my grandaughter seems to enjoy the book (I wouldn't say she "loves" it) and a few of the birds like the Killdeer and Spotted Towhee are not common to youngsters so, it does provide a tiny bit of educational value.

Conclusion: Bird Calls is a great way to teach young children about birds!

Review: I ordered this book for my two year old grandson and he loves it! It's been so popular with other kids that I've ordered three more as presents. The ability to "find" the bird in the leaf cover and then to play the bird calls is what makes the book so attractive. We don't read all the information about each bird because it's too much for little kids; besides, we're too busy playing the calls. A fun and unintended way to use the book is to open it to a particular bird and then play the wrong call; my grandson, who is learning about jokes, loves to do this and then look at me and say "That's not a chickadee" as he plays the barred owl call.
If you have young children who are interested in birds (or you want them to be interested in birds) this is the best book I've found for little ones.

Review: Our Great-grandchildren love the "Bird Call Book" by Frank Gallo. I hope it will be available when new babies come along.

Conclusion: Great Coffee Table Book

Review: I first saw this book at my mother's house, and knew that my grandson would love it. For anyone who loves birds and would like to identify the "calls" they hear, this is a great book. The only drawback is that, for the majority of the birds in the book, only one of each bird's many calls is recorded. Nonetheless, I love the book.

Conclusion: Ready for our second copy...

Review: Our 15-month old daughter can't get enough of this book. I thought it would be way over her head (and the tabs are a bit difficult for her) but was surprised to see her just fall in love it. She has ripped some of the tabs but still points at each bird, makes sounds, and has now learned how to hit the buttons to play the sounds herself. This is always the first book she brings to us to go through. We plan to buy our second copy soon!
